What is in this category
Some apps in this category are calculation engines with a thin interface over them. Others are almost entirely writing, with the chart as a hook. A third group is neither: they are sky maps, which point your phone at the sky and name what you are looking at.
Knowing which of the three you have picked matters more here than anywhere else on Appiqon. A chart calculation has a right answer and every serious app gets it right. A daily reading is writing, and the quality of the writing is the entire product.
Four things worth checking
- Is the writing written?Some readings are composed by people and some are assembled from templates. A week of reading tells you which, and the difference is what you are paying for.
- Does it ask for a birth time?Charts that need an exact time and place will say so. An app that does not ask is calculating something coarser.
- How many notifications?Transit alerts can arrive several times a day. Check whether they can be turned down rather than off.
- What renews, and how often?A subscription for something that updates once a day is a fair deal only if you open it once a day.
Questions worth asking first
- Do I want a calculator, a daily read, or a sky map?
- Is this something I will open in the evening, or something that will interrupt me?
- Am I comfortable with the birth data it is asking for, and where that data is stored?
