What is in this category
The most crowded category on Appiqon, and the one where the cost of switching is highest. A note app holds years of your thinking; a task manager holds the shape of your week. Moving either one is a weekend, not an afternoon.
Which is a reason to be slow here. A note app you will still be using in three years is worth more than one that is slightly nicer this month, and the question that predicts that best is not about features. It is about export.
Four things worth checking
- Export, in a format something else can readPlain text, Markdown, ICS, CSV. If the only way out is a proprietary archive, you are renting rather than keeping.
- Does it work offline?A task list that needs a connection fails exactly when you are travelling.
- What happens after a bad week?Some systems only survive if you keep them perfect. Ask how it looks after four days of neglect, because there will be four days of neglect.
- Sync reliability over sync speedA sync that is a second slower and never loses anything is the better one.

- Am I solving a real problem, or reorganising as a way of not starting?
- Could I get out of this app in an hour if I wanted to?
- Does this replace something, or sit alongside it?
